It is Anne Hamilton's joy and privilege to help writers, directors, and performers create new scripts and theatrical experiences. She also helps screenwriters to develop their dreams.
Anne is the principal of Hamilton Dramaturgy, a nationwide dramaturgy practice now located in Bucks County, PA. She has seventeen years of experience in the professional theatre in New York City, and the majority of her clients are located in New York and Los Angeles. She produces ScriptForward!, a specialty E-newsletter for professional scriptwriters, every month. It always includes helpful articles for arts collaborators.
Hamilton has consulted with Andrei Serban, the Joseph Papp Public Theater, the Harold Prince Musical Theatre Institute, Michael Mayer, Lynn Nottage, Classic Stage Company, Jean Cocteau Repertory Theater, Leslie Lee, Andrew Barrett, The New York City Public Library's Schomberg Center for Research in Black Culture, and the University of Iowa Playwrights Workshop. She worked for James Lipton (host and producer, INSIDE THE ACTORS STUDIO) for three years as the academic advisor to the graduate students and faculty at the Actors Studio Drama School. The Bogliasco Foundation of New York City and Bogliasco, Italy awarded her a fellowship in recognition of her personal contribution to the American theatre. She studied the philosophy of aesthetics and British literature in Oxford, England, and was a NYSCA auditor for several years. She is a graduate of Columbia University School of the Arts and holds dual citizenship in the United States and Italy.
Hamilton has published several articles in a series of Case Studies designed to help playwrights and directors understand exactly how a dramaturg can assist them in different projects such as staged readings, new play development, world premieres, etc. She has published four in Scriptforward! and the E-magazine THE LOOP has reprinted two of them. She also has published several articles about how to make the transition from college or graduate school to the professional world. |
